What Are Camber, Caster, and Toe?

These terms are descriptors of the different ways the orientation of a wheel to the other wheels and to the frame of the vehicle can be described. They are defined as follows:

• Camber: This is a measure of how far inward or outward a wheel leans. It is best visualized from the front or rear view of the vehicle. Negative camber is an inward lean, and positive camber is an outward lean. This alignment metric indicates how much tire wear you will see along the edge of the tire. Our team will adjust the camber to stand the wheel upright perfectly.
• Caster: Like the wheels on a shopping cart, the caster indicates leaning the axis either forward or back. Negative caster can actually improve stability at high speeds, but in most vehicles, we aim for an absolute neutral caster for better durability.
• Toe: If you imagine the line your wheel would follow if they were to travel forward free of the frame, would those lines intersect, diverge, or run parallel? If the lines would intersect, that is toe-in. Diverging lines is toe-out. We want a parallel toe for a better ride and less wear on your steering system and suspension.
