Choosing between the two comes down to deciding which vehicle is the best fit and has the most desirable features. Allow the team at Volkswagen of Gainesville to help you make an informed decision. We are here to showcase how our new inventory offers you an elevated driving experience.

Capable Power & Performance

The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that delivers 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It also delivers an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 21/24 MPG. The other engine is a V6 that delivers 276 horsepower.

This engine comes standard on the SEL Premium R-Line trim, but is also available on several of the other upgraded trims. All 2021 Atlas trims come with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Several of the Atlas SUV trims come standard with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is standard on several of the top trims and is available on all trims. The VW Atlas has a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds.

The 2021 Toyota Highlander has a standard V6 that delivers 295-horsepower with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Drivers can choose a Hybrid powertrain with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors.
The hybrid motor creates 243 horsepower and has a CVT transmission. Like the Atlas, the Highlander is available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Also, like the Atlas, the Highlander can tow up to 5,000 pounds. With the V6, the Highlander’s EPA-estimated fuel economy is 21/29 MPG.

Staying Connected and Entertained

The VW Atlas comes well-equipped with plenty of standard technology. Along with standard interior LED lighting, it also has a premium multi-function display and a 6.5-inch composition color touchscreen with an AM/FM radio and Bluetooth. They also all come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

All trims also come standard with a pair of convenient USB-C ports, App-Connect, and Volkswagen’s Car-Net. The standard driver-assist features include a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, Forward Collision Warning with Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Pedestrian Monitoring.

The Highlander also comes with plenty of tech including a standard 8.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The Highlander also comes standard with several driver-assist features including Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beams, Lane Tracing Assist, and Road Sign Assist.

Several Trims to Choose From

The interior and trims are where the Atlas and Highlander differ the most. The Atlas offers several outstanding trims including three R-Line choices for plenty of well-equipped speed. After the base trim, the Atlas comes in the SE, SEL, and SEL Premium.

All three have R-Line versions, and the SE comes with additional technology, too. All R-Line trims come with the V6 engine, as well as upgraded exterior features like 20-inch wheels, heated front seats with V-Tex leatherette surfaces, and a few other driver-assist features like Adaptive Cruise Control and Park Distance Control.

The Highlander also comes in several trims. The base trim is the L, followed by the LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum. The LE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum also come in a Hybrid trim. Unlike the Atlas models with trims like the SEL R-Line, the Highlander doesn’t have any trims that give drivers the opportunity for a bit of zip and zoom.

The Atlas has more interior cargo space compared to the Highlander. With all three rows in place, the Atlas has 21 cubic feet compared to the Highlander’s 16 cubic feet.
